Maya is the pretty much the most used software in vfx and animation pipelines, it's not the best, but it does a few things very well.

Picking one of these for permanent use is difficult, but with those points cleared I hope everyone can make a choice for their projects.Cinema4D is a great software, mostly known to be used in the motion graphics industry, good with modeling (not much sculpting), great tools for motion graphics, ok (ish) with everything else Last time I used it it was such a great software, and now I have heard that r19 has a lot more tools to composit.īlender is free, awesome smoke and fluid simulation, ive seen great features in the upcoming release. I have seen some really amazing landscape renders in blender, which cannot be distinguished form an original image, I find cinema to suffer in these cases.Ĭinema 4D (at least for me) is the way to go if you are compositing. More possibilities with plugins: Same here, blender has a lot of free plugins which overtake cinema 4D, otherwise, if you are willing to spend a few (A LOT) dollars in C4D plugins, there are a lot more possibilities. On the other hand, you have nodes in blender, which to me seem a great addition, (once u understand how they work). More possibilities without plugins: Hard choice here, if you can get away with fluid and smoke simulation, blender is definitely the winner, otherwise, I find cinema to have more features and be a bit more organised. Renders faster: Well, rendering depends on scenes, blender has cycles, which comes by default, is free, and supports GPU, so I'd give a point to blender just for the GPU render. Giving realistic results: Cinema 4D takes a point here, personally I think that cinema 4D has a good native render engine, let alone the new physical render, which is far better.Įasier in modelling: I dont model a lot of stuff, but as far as i have seen in blender, modelling is faster and better, so +1 for blenderĮasier to work with After Effects: Well, if you know what you are doing, both work great, but in cinema you can do more things much easier with after effects.Īnimating: I havent seen much here, cinema 4d seems to have a bit more "stuff", but blender seems to have an advantage here. I tried blender for a few days and I could say that I came to a conclusion:
